Caryn Anderson

My work with libraries and universities is part of Civic Society Development. Generally, "civics" or "civic life" refers to the activities, rights, and duties of the citizens of a community. Civic society development focuses on strengthening community assets that enable citizens to contribute directly to the evolution of their society. These assets are often intangible (education, power, rule of law) but are enabled or inhibited by tangible assets (resources, facilities). My consultation and training work with libraries and universities therefore also involves direct engagement with entities that have direct influence over related assets and activities, including: government ministries, local and international nonprofit/non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and often press.

Academic Library Capacity Building in Egypt, Iraq, Pakistan & Qatar (2010-2019)Show/Hide More

Led trainings for academic librarians in Egypt (American University of Cairo), Iraq (University of Kerbala, American University of Iraq Sulaimani) and Qatar (Qatar University) to build capacity in library automation, reference services, information literacy, open access research resources, institutional repositories, and institutional research publications and reputation development. Iraq project conducted through Simmons University, in collaboration with IREX , and the US Department of State (US Embassy Baghdad) . Egypt and Qatar projects conducted through KnowledgeE , in collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
